From Cultural heritage to Sustainable development – Dr. Olga Kolokytha

»From Cultural heritage to Sustainable development« is a series of expert lectures organized by Hiša Podlog / Cultural residence Podlog pod Bohorjem, aiming to transfer new insights and competencies of leading European experts to the tourism and cultural operators working in the broader Kozjansko region.


The fourth and last lecture which took place on Tuesday, 7th December 2021 at 17.30, with one of Europe’s forefront experts and researchers in cultural policy, dr. Olga Kolokytha. The main topic of this session will be “Local cultural policy: cultural heritage as enabler of local development“.



More about the expert lecturer Dr. Olga Kolokytha

Dr. Olga Kolokytha (Department of Communication, University of Vienna) holds a PhD in Cultural Institutions Studies (Kulturbetriebslehre) awarded with Distinction by the University of Music and the Performing Arts Vienna. In 2006 she was ranked 7th in Europe for the Cultural Policy Research Award, awarded by the European Cultural Foundation and the Bank of Sweden. In 2018 she was among the key experts invited by the European Commission to the consultation on the future of the European Agenda for Culture. Her research interests are in the area of cultural and creative industries and include, but are not limited to, cultural institutions (tangible and intangible), cultural policy at regional, national and supranational level, creative industries in times of crisis, and cultural diplomacy. She is the lead researcher for the University of Vienna at the Horizon2020 project CICERONE researching cultural and creative industries in Europe (project leaders: University of Amsterdam). 


Dr. Kolokytha has taught at university level (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greek Open University, University of Vienna) and worked extensively as cultural projects manager and consultant around Europe, including for the European Opera Center, Hellenic Festival and the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.


As part of a four-lecture series titled “From Cultural Heritage to Sustainable Development”, we will weekly present leading European researchers and experts who continue expanding the existing framework of knowledge and practices in the field of cultural heritage, tourism, innovation and sustainable development. As part of Hiša Podlog / Cultural residence Podlog pod Bohorjem’s mission we aim to contribute to the transfer both new insights and competencies to the community in the Kozjansko region. The objective of our think-tank’s advisory board is thus to further contribute the competencies required for sustainable development of the region.
